universal medical coverage in california

A total of 6.5 million people, one-fifth of the state’s population, do not have health insurance, far more than in any other state.

The proposal would prohibit insurance companies from denying coverage to people because of their age or health status. They would also be required to put 85 percent of their profits directly into health care services.

85% of their profits huh? That’s a lot of money. Especially if their “profit” is 66% of the $1 they just charged a company for the insurance premium. I’m just predicting this but this 85% profit “tax” will not apply to Worker’s Compensation, because they’re special, they ride the short bus.
