Director of Network Operations

We are currently looking for a motivated, high octane Director of Network Operations to own our 24×7 data center operations with a fast-growing user base and monstrous bandwidth usage.

The Director of Network Operations will be responsible for day to day, hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrading and issue resolution in a large-scale, high availability 24×7 hosted service application environment. The Director will plan, design and implement strategic processes to keep pace with the growth demands in Pandora’s network infrastructure. The Director will oversee and mentor a small Network Operations staff and hire additional staff as necessary. The Director will be responsible for negotiation and management of all external contracts related to hardware, software and co-location facilities. As a member of the Network Operations team, the Director will take part in on-call rotation and respond to system problems on a 24×7 basis.

The right candidate must be a self-starter and be able to manage and prioritize many tasks at any given time. In depth knowledge of Linux systems and networks is required, including bash/sh, tcp/ip, nfs, x86 hardware, and dns/named technologies.

Other relevant technical skills include Cisco/Foundry, ipchains/ iptables, ipsec, Debian/GNU, apt, rpm, Postfix, VNC, evms, Raid, Postgres, Python.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated success and enjoyment in mentoring and growing a high-quality Network Operations team; a minimum of 5 yrs experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years hands-on experience isolating, diagnosing and resolving problems with Linux systems and networks in a large-scale, mission-critical production environment.
  • Proven success building a consumer-oriented, high availability 24×7 production environment from scratch.
  • Strong project leadership skills, especially in deploying live end-user systems.
  • Experience in growing facilities, equipment and networking to support a fast-growing user base.
  • Practical consumer based experience.
  • In depth knowledge of Unix shellscripting and Linux systems and networks is required, including bash/sh, tcp/ip, nfs, x86 hardware, and dns/named technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle periodic on-call duty as well as out-of-band requests.
  • Familiarity with common network topologies, protocols, and tools.
  • Database administration, programming or debugging of web applications running under Java VM.

Plus Requirements

  • Technically strong in any of the following areas: Cisco/Foundry, ipchains/iptables, ipsec, Debian/GNU, apt, rpm, Postfix, VNC, evms, Raid, Postgres, Python
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline a plus
