Corprate Greed, Forced upgrade! Number Portability not quite there.

Prelude:
I’ve moved a couple times over the last few years. It is a real pain in the ass having to deal with upcalling and harassing the Adjuster, and my Doctors on a very regular basis, and make sure I get a call back. Just trying to keep a line of communication open, can become insane. Now throw in a new number, for them to forget or take 8 months to process(When I had to change my sub of attorney to myself, it took WC 9 months to process after they recived it, and they managed to send my private psychological and medical reports to a lawyer whom, I fired for the same issue of my privacy. Ya, whole story I have yet to write about), and this once simple way we communicated breaks down, means more hassle for me to fix. As you can see this ends up being worse than a change of address with the Post Office.

Sooo, I need to keep my phone number, and where I live now, I’m roaming, and with each time I use my phone, I am lining some corporate suit’s pockets with cash.

My mobile contract expires on December 26th. I’d be stupid to pay a $200 early cancelation fee to bail out a month early, with ATT, now Cingular.

I decided to check out the local mobile phone outfit here. They informed me, that due to the size of their company, and since number portability isn’t completely phased in yet here, I’d lose my number if I went with them.

So to keep my number, I have to signup under a Cingular Nation Plan.

My current phone service isn’t GSM, which is what Cingular now only provides to customers.

I would rather not have to get a new phone, but doesn’t seem to be an option for me.

So I get to choose between paying for a new phone outright, or be forced into a long contract.

I do not want to get screwed into a long term National service plan!

But to keep my 714 number, it’s the only easy option I have.

Before having to move I was going to change my plan to Cingular anyway.

But now that it’s being forced upon me, I hate it.
